Lately there have been so many inexpensive products from the drugstore making their way into my makeup collection. In fact, some of these have become favorites over my high end buys! Honestly, I never thought there would be a day when I reached for a 7$ foundation over all of my other ones! Here are 8 of my favorite drustore staples. They are perfect for a natural “no makeup” makeup look or if you just want to brighten your complexion before you run errands on your day off.
1.) Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Matte and Poreless Don’t let the name fool you. While this says it is for oily skin, this foundation looks great on all skin types. It does leave a matte finish, but It doesn’t cling to any dry patches. It lasts all day long and it looks so natural. Not to mention they have a really decent shade range.
2.) Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser I use this in shade neutral to brighten up undereyes as well as highlight above my upper lip and center of my forehead. The sponge tip applicator makes sure that you don’t use too much and it leaves an even natural finish.
3.) Revlon Cream Blush in charmed enchantment– I am obsessed with cream blush. It always gives the most natural glow. Revlon cream blushes are some of my all time favorites. They come in only a few colors. I own them all. I can’t recommend these enough. I often layer 2 blushes and these are perfect as a base or on their own. They are super user friendly. They blend very easily.
4.) Milani’s baked blushes are another all time favorite formula. These are stunning. They have a little shimmer, but nothing glittery. They are pigmented, but bendable. They hold up to some of my favorite high end blushes. I love this one in rose d’ oro to bring a touch of life to my face.
5.) NYX prismatic eyeshadow in Girl Talk is a pinky shimmery eyeshadow that can be work as a highlighter or on the eyes. I use it all over the lids as well as the high points of cheek bones for a natural glow.
6.) NYX wonder pencils are great for many things. They can be used as eyeliners or lip liners. Here I used one in the lightest shade on the inner rims of my eyes to make my eyes look brighter and more awake. This is a great tip for those mornings when you aren’t feeling so hot.
7.) Ok! so it feels like everyone and their grandma has been RAVING about this Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. Rightfully so. It has the same effect as Too Faced Better Than Sex for about 1/3 of the price. Drug store mascaras are what’s up. They are much less expensive and there are so many good formulas. This one lives up to the hype.
8.) I don’t think I can say enough good things about Loreal Le Matte Lip Pens. For those of you wary of the drying effects of liquid lipsticks this is your jam. They glide on smooth and they last without making your lips look parchedI have every color and every time I wear one I get a compliment.
Let me know any and all of your drugstore favorites in the comments below<3
might be am definitely a makeup hoarder. I start off with the best intentions when I shop. My goal when I am in the store is always to find the holy-grail foundation that perfectly matches my skin and compliments my complexion so I can finally put all of the others in the past. I often think to myself now THIS is a lip color I can wear with everything. I legit can’t actually leave a store without purchasing a nail polish. It is a problem.
Recently I realized that I stopped knowing exactly how many eyeshadows I own. I was no longer able to count how many periwinkle blue nail polishes sat in my collection unused. I bought the same exact lipstick on 3 different occasions not realizing that multiple tubes sat unused in a drawer. Not to mention, the startling fact, that multiple days a week I don’t even wear a stitch of makeup. I decided it was time to host an intervention with myself. Enter Marie Kondo’s book, the life-changing magic of tidying up.
In the book Marie outlines a clear method for clearing out the clutter.
1.) You start with a category as opposed to a room or space.
2.) You put everything in the chosen category in the middle of the floor.
3.) You hold each individual item in your hand and ask yourself if it brings you joy. If it makes you happy it stays. If it doesn’t make you happy it has to go.
It’s all pretty straight forward, yet sometimes we need that extra push to let go of things even if they are no longer serving us. In the end I was able to find better homes for all of the makeup sitting unused and unnoticed. As a plus, I now am much more aware of what I do have and am able to put it to much better use. I do recommend this book. I thought Kondo’s method contained a more cut and dry mentality that I had not seen before. It is extremely helpful if you are the kind of person that cleans out their closet multiple times a year. If you follow this book accordingly you won’t be cleaning it out again for a long time. The best part is there is a genuine freedom and happiness that comes with having less.
(though I still have more than plenty.)
Here is my first youtube video featuring all of the treats I brought back from NYC as well as a very brief explanation of the South Korean beauty culture. Enjoy and please subscribe! <3
This past weekend I was in NYC visiting my bests and I had to go to Chinatown and visit a few Korean beauty shops! For those of you that don’t know, for Koreans skin care is not just frivolous it’s a way of life. Korean’s have been at the forefront of skin care technology for years now. Many American product lines have slowly followed suit by introducing BB creams, CC creams, and sheet masks. I have ordered tons of goodies from Charlotte Cho’s site Sokoglam during the last year, and have been aching to get to a store so that I can sample all of the treats in person.
Our first stop was TonyMoly
Ben reading product reviews on MakeupAlley
We were a couple of kids in a candy store. Korean beauty lines are also known for extremely high quality at very reasonable price points as well as their beyond adorable packaging.
Then on to oo35mm
oo35mm carried a wide variety of Korean skin care lines. It was almost overwhelming!
Needless to say I still managed to come out alright. 😉 Stay tuned for a video in the next couple of weeks where I will go into detail all about my Korean Haul. There are some interesting items that you won’t want to miss! <3
